At the end of Talamanca beach (near Ibiza town), in the spot known as Sa Punta, there is still a typical beach chiringuito with no decorative or culinary ostentation, where their only concern is to give the best food and not the appearance.
It is The Fish Shack, although local people know it as ‘Maria’s chiringuito’, because of its fantastic owner. It is placed on a plain in a rocky surface just next to the beach, in a strategic and calm place with fantastic views to the fortified city of Dalt Vila. Word of mouth has made it the hot spot with a cosmopolitan atmosphere, in which you will see tourists from all around the world with local people.
The restaurant has few tables, (some of them are placed in the rocks) benches and parasols to protect from the intense sun. Its charm lies in its simplicity. It doesn’t even have electricity (it works with an electric generator) and the bathrooms are portable cabins. It is important to note its excellent service.
Its specialty is fresh fish having a high variety to choose from: sirvia, sole, sardines, gilt-head bream, cuttlefish or prawns, depending on what they get every day. The waiters usually say out loud the menu, something very typical from classic local restaurants. The fish is cooked on the grill and it is always served with a green salad with tomatoes, onion and green pepper and roasted potatoes. If you don’t want fish, they also have other choices as lamb chops or entrecote.
For dessert, it is almost compulsory to order its delicious Flaó, a cheesecake with spearmint typical from Ibiza and ‘café caleta’, coffee with rum and cinnamon (also from the island).
Because of its popularity, the prices have increased in the past years, with an average price of 30-35€. It is a lovely and special place where you will feel like home but even better, next to the sea.
